Debord traces the development of a modern society in which authentic social life has been replaced with its representation: "All that once was directly lived has become mere representation." Debord argues that the history of social life can be understood as "the decline of being into having, and having into merely appearing." This condition, according to Debord, is the "historical moment at which the commodity completes its colonization of social life."
In this speculative design attempt, the future world I speculated is a society with virtual reality technology as enhanced vesion of spectacel, where people would suffer thinking alienation and exploitation. The proposal of my design concept is based on Guy Depoau's anti-spectacle social theory as a methodology, which rebels to take back the autonomy of thinking in the virtual world.
When people enter the camera area, particles converge to form an image of the user. When the user's hand enters the three rectangles, it will jump to the corresponding interface.
- In giant spectacle, the user can see the real face of the world made of digital particles.
- In Mornitoring & Control, the graphic of people's minds can change in real time according to the user's expression.
- In Iniative, users can create and control their own graphics representing their minds in the virtual world.
